About Jakeithia

I grew up in Lafayette, La. I was very shy, quiet, an avid reader, and introvert. I spent a lot of time with my mother, older sister, and two great aunties who were deaf and mute. At an early age, I learned to be independent and self-reflective. I also grew in strength and spirit. My parents and grandparents were entrepreneurs who taught me about hard work and dedication. They also instilled in me the importance of having multiple streams of income and impacting the lives of others.

My mother, who started a mentoring organization 33 years ago, helped me discover my love for mentoring through her leadership, guidance, and love for children. As a senior in high school, I was chosen as a peer leader. Through that experience, I further realized that mentoring was my passion and calling. For the past 25 years, I've mentored women from all walks of life in one-on-one and group settings. I've had the privilege of developing women into leaders and encouraging them to reach their full potential in ministry, secular, and educational arenas. I'm currently enrolled in the Sam Chand Leadership Institute, which will help me to further develop my leadership skills.

As a math and science educator, I've also had the privilege of being a teacher/mentor to middle and high school students for the past 14 years. I'm also the Program Director for School of Greatness-Lafayette which is an after-school mentoring program that empowers middle and high schoolers to reach their full potential. Within the last three years, I've helped mentor over 150 youth through this program.
